Laser Acne Scar Removal – Pros and Cons

In case you have severe scars and you hate the surgeons knife and other chemicals on your face and if you have a lot of money to spend, laser treatment is a good option to treat acne scars.

A concentrated laser beam is focussed on the affected area. This will burn the scarred tissue leaving the lower inner skin layers that are free of scars. It takes some time for the fresh skin to replace the burnt ones. During this period, the skin goes very dry. It is necessary to use a moisteruizer. Also sun exposure should be avoided as the new skin layers will be very sensitive to UV light. Sun screen lotion should be used if you have to be exposed to sun.

Laser resurfacing can cost anywhere above $2,500 all the way upto $10,000 and sometimes beyond. Further, a single sitting may not be enough and could warrant repeated treatments. Although, you can treat severe scars left over by cystic acne etc. the recovery time after getting a laser treatment is a huge disadvantage.

In some rare cases, people have also reported scars left over by these lasers along with burning sensation and redness.

The cheaper alternatives are microdermabrasion, chemical peel etc. They are quite effective and inexpensive.
